On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.
Animoto is a web tool that was created to simplify the creation and sharing of videos. Animoto has a free 14 day trial then there are a couple options after the trial is finished. Each of those options have a different price point and different access throughout Animoto . If you are an educator ,you can sign up for a Animoto plus account which is free. With this account you can add up to 50 free student accounts. Animoto allows anyone to create videos for any thing, including videos for weddings, birthdays, real estate agents and businesses. The first step in creating a video on Animoto is choosing a style and a song you would like to use. Then you can customize the video by adding text, photos and other videos. Afterwards, you can produce it and share your creation. You can share it via your dashboard. Animoto is very appropriate for schools and student to use. I feel that Animoto is appropriate for students in 5th grade through 12th grade. Another great feature of Animoto is that it has its own section for teachers and its own sections for students.
Educational Uses of Site
Animoto could be used for various types of lessons and activities by students and by teachers. Students can do presentations using Animoto instead of using the traditional PowerPoint. Teachers can use Animoto to present different lessons for students instead of just standing in front of the room and talking about that topic. Also, teachers who use this would be able to upload a video about a certain subject and have the students watch it for homework. That next day you can have a class discussion about the video and what they liked and disliked about the video. Students would be able to work in teams to make a video that expands on a topic that was talked about in class. Another way Animoto could be used in education is by the school district itself. The district could use it to make a video about the district and what they might be doing in terms of the curriculum being used. They could also make a video about what is happening around the district and post in on their school website. Teachers can make a video about what students might learn for the class for that year. The possibilities are truly endless for what Animoto could be used for education. This tool could be very beneficial for students, staff and school districts.
Review of Site
I really thought that Animoto's website was very user friendly. They had videos explaining how Animoto could be used in almost any scenario. The layout of Animoto's website was easy to navigate and find the different uses for Animoto. I enjoyed that Animoto for education had its very own page with more videos of how it was used in education. On that page you could apply for a free Animoto plus account that you can use for your classroom, which I thought was great. Overall I was very pleased with the ease of this website and how organized it was.
